goodbye ipaq?

i brought my non-portable ipaq today at hp service center. its still functioning,, when its in its cradel.. battery problem. havta go there twice, coz when i went there lunch time,, naglulunch din yata yung mga techinician (tama ba yun?!?). so i went back around 3pm just to hear the bad news, they cannot replace the battery because its built in. but the techinician told me check the internet for replacement batteries, but i have to do it on my own.

after googling, found out that the battery will cost me around 2t-3t. hmnn. but here's one interesting option ..

Ipaq 3630 Battery Swap [cheap alternative]
Ok, you know its hard to find a new internal battery for your iPAQ right? Unless you're gonna be ordering online then you have a big problem.Well, I was fed up with my iPAQ 3630 and basically opened it and ripped out the battery.

Well, you've seen the iPAQ Battery swap for a Nokia BL-5C battery right? But its for the 38XX and 39XX models.

Well, think again. Just follow these rules and you can revive your iPAQ once more.

DISCLAIMER: I will take no responsibility for any damage that might happen to your iPAQ. Using a Nokia battery has its downside. The iPAQ battery is 3.5mm but the BL-4C is about 5mm. READ EVERYTHING FIRST BEFORE STARTING THIS PROCEDURE!!! So installing this will create a pressure on the LCD screen if not placed properly. AGAIN, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

What you need:- T6 Tork Screw Driver- Nokia BL-4C battery, this is for N6100 models (if you have find a thinner battery let me know!)- Voltage Checker- Soldering Iron (preferable the pointed ones)- Three to four inches of wireSteps:

1. Remove the screws on the four corners of your iPAQ (at the back).
2. GENTLY remove the back casing (I stressed out GENTLY, its made of plastic to be patient). Start from the top.
3. Unplugged the dead iPAQ Battery (its double-taped on two corners).
4. Now, peel off the ribbon very GENTLY. It fairly easy to remove since its just tapes. Now remember the right side (when the battery is faced up) is the positive side.
5. Now detach the ribbon from the main battery cell. Be VERY CAREFUL not to cut the metal parts because its quite thin. Unfold the metal connectors GENLTY. You should have two inverted "L" metals connectors on either side.
6. Get you soldering iron ready and cut the wires in half (I am assuming you know how to prepare these wires).
7. Solder wires to the battery first. Be careful no to get any lead on the middle of the battery. See diagram below:

Top of Nokia Battery:

*Remember: The battery is also made of plastic so thread lightly.
8. Now solder the other ends of the wire to their respective polarities on the the folds of the metal connectors.
9. Use a voltage checker for connections. the battery should read around 3.7-4volts if its new.
10. Now, fold the metal connectors on the fold marks and again on the end where the ribbon starts. AGAIN, do this VERY CAREFULLY!
11. Now use a tape the metal connectors (FRONT & BACK) and top of the battery because you don't want those parts touching other components of your iPAQ. (I suggest using the expensive tape. The white ones [not masking tape you dimwit!) that's a bit translucent).
12. Now plug the battery to your iPAQ and see if it works.
13. Now place the battery on the back of the iPAQ ribbon first and place the battery on the right side of the iPAQ (where the recond button is located). Place the wires on either side of the battery.
14. Now, place the back cover back. BE SURE NOT TO FORGET TO PUT BACK THE STYLUS LOCK ON THE UPPER LEFT HAND CORNER. Do this left side first (where the stylus is located and press the bottom lock gently until it locks.
15. Now check the LCD screen for any pressure to screen before putting back the screws in. If you see any pressure. Move the battery. (Mine doesn't have LCD pressure WITHOUT the style sleeve).
16. Now put the screws back in and you're good to go!

* ONE MORE PIECE OF NOTE: IF YOU ARE UNSURE AT WHAT YOU ARE DOING, STOP AND JUST ORDER A BATTERY ONLINE.
